Colors, culture, and celebration—Diwali at its brightest.

Diwali symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, the triumph of good over evil, and the power of knowledge to overcome ignorance. This year’s celebration was both lively and meaningful, focusing on cultural understanding and unity. The International Club led the event as part of its mission to promote global awareness and appreciation for the diverse traditions represented in our school community.

International Club officers Kate Sutacio, Sienna Sangcajo, and Mischa Manio led an engaging discussion to help students learn about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. Kate began by explaining the festival’s meaning and origins, highlighting its symbolism of light conquering darkness, good triumphing over evil, and knowledge overcoming ignorance. She also shared that Diwali commemorates events such as Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya, Lord Krishna’s victory over Narakasura, and the spiritual enlightenment of Lord Mahavira.

Finally, Mischa highlighted the importance of Diwali as a cultural, religious, and social celebration. She described traditional festivities, which include decorating homes with lights and rangoli, lighting diyas, family gatherings, prayers to deities like Goddess Lakshmi, exchanging gifts and sweets, fireworks, and feasts. Mischa emphasized that these customs bring families and communities together and symbolize new beginnings, unity, and the triumph of light over darkness.

In addition to the cultural program, the Theatre Arts Club performed a short play titled “Light Over Darkness.” The skit illustrated the origins and meaning of Diwali through a story that showed how goodness and truth ultimately prevail over negativity. The cast featured Emmanuelle (Grade 4), Ethan (Grade 9), and Vedant (Grade 10), with Chloe as the narrator. The audience responded with warm applause, appreciating the performance’s heartfelt message and creativity.

This celebration was more than an introduction to Diwali; it was a heartfelt tribute to the diversity that makes our school community unique. As students explored different cultures and beliefs, they gained a deeper appreciation for traditions beyond their own. The International Club hopes this event will inspire even more opportunities for cultural exchange and mutual respect in the future, keeping the spirit of Diwali alive in every corner of the school.
