The FEPSian Torch
The Inter-School Environmental Public Speaking Competition (ISEPSC) kicked off on May 5, 2025, with an atmosphere charged with enthusiasm, insight, and passionate environmental advocacy. On Day 1, student groups from across the United Arab Emirates took the stage to address the Sub-Senior Category theme: “Two Crises, One Solution: Fighting Climate Change to Save Biodiversity.”

The Far Eastern Private School–Al Shahba is proud as it was awarded the title of 2nd Runner-Up out of all 29 competing schools in the UAE; a reward to the talent, hard work, creativity, and eco-awareness of our young representatives.
The top award went to The Philippine School–Dubai, and the 1st Runner-Up was GEMS Our Own Indian School–Dubai. All the schools, apart from their own arguments, collaborated to strongly debate the connection between the current biodiversity collapse and climate change, sharing prudent solutions and calling to collaborate.
Team FEPS Al Shahba developed an engaging performance, incorporating news reporting, dramatized storytelling, and theatrical speeches. The presentation, “Two Crises, One Solution,” set the stage for our students to portray a dramatization of Mother Nature’s plight, raised local as well as global concerns, and defined exemplary environmental projects in the world, most especially in the UAE, from solar energy to mangrove recovery from the youth. This goes as well with the actions made by the school for the restoration and sustainability of the biodiversity.
The competition exhibited the ability of youth to engage in public speaking and promoted the importance of youth engagement in tackling global issues. All participants left the judges and audience with astonishing and impactful performances with their level of research, poise on stage, and team spirit.
As we celebrate this achievement, FEPS Al Shahba is still producing globally aware and environmentally friendly students to galvanize change toward a better future.
Hats off to our team—Maria Elisabeth S. Evasco (10C), Chloe Jezmine D. Gochy (9D), Anasuddin M. Mohammed (10A), Darren Chloe C. Serran (10D) and Brianna Faye Q. Tito (9C)—our coach Ms. Chelkie Mariz B. Dugenia and all the young champions who continue to advocate for the earth!
