On October 3rd, 2024, Grade 10 student Anasuddin M. Mohammed wrote a heartwarming poem dedicated to our beloved teachers to commemorate the celebration of World Teachers Day.

He presented his piece, “The Prism of Our Education,”  with such sincerity and passion that it truly touched the audience and teachers’ hearts. It starts out like this:

“Teachers: The sole reason we strive to succeed in education

Our keepers, the key components that make up a safe haven

People like them color our cerulean sky

And their loyalty, like emblems, helps us through our hardest times.”

In the first two parts of the poem, Anasuddin states that our teachers are the ones that motivate us to succeed. This is indeed true, as they push us to do things to the best of our potential, always cheering us on. Aside from succeeding in studies, making them proud is such a thing to achieve. School is a new environment for many where we need to adjust to unfamiliar places and rooms, but with the guidance of our teachers, they make school feel like home. He also states that our teachers help make our sky blue by adding color from their essences, and that their loyalty is like no other as they help us go through our difficulties and hardships.

“They want school to be our mural,

Where our paint can unlock our highest potential

If not for them, everything is but a blank canvas

So let there be rainbows because they give us these brushes!”

In the third and fourth parts of the poem, Anasuddin states that our school should be our canvas where we can unleash our colors, talents, and capabilities. Every person and every student has their own color, and through our classes with our teachers, our hues leave a mark as we achieve our highest potentials through learning. Although, if it weren’t for our teachers, our school would be dull. So thanks to them, our school is full of rainbows, where we complete our exams and homework with flying colors.

“For they are the pillars of our future

And the prism of our education.

So cherish them like heirlooms and always remember

These lovely people are our dear teachers.”

In the statements above, it is said that our teachers are the pillars of our future and the prism of our education. Meaning that they helped shape us into the people we are today and the people we are yet to become. Our knowledge is fed with their help and efforts as they tirelessly teach us every day. We wouldn’t gain the knowledge we possess today if it weren’t for them. Without teachers, what is a school? So it is only right that we treasure them dearly, just like how we cherish heirlooms.

“Finally, as this poem comes to an end, like a school play,

I just have one more thing to say, and that’s Happy World’s Teachers Day!”

As Anasuddin finishes his poem, I think we all know very clearly the message he wanted to imply. The first days of school are scary. You meet new faces, and you see rooms you’ve never seen before. Our sky is dull as we go through difficult times. And sometimes, stage fright or fear of judgment gets the best of us, making us hesitant to show our talents and skills. But we managed to overcome these with the guidance of our dear teachers. They helped make first days less scarier, and overtime school started to feel like home, a safe place. Hardships are never avoided, but our teachers held our hands as we went through them. They paint our dull sky; they color our world. Their colorful auras help us to unleash the color within us as well. Whether you’re good at singing, drawing, or even public speaking, our teachers are always there, supporting and encouraging us to do our best, as they are some of the people that recognize our potential. In return for their hard work, let us cherish them in our hearts, because again, what is a school without teachers? What is a community without our educators? So let us recognize them, for they are the source of our knowledge, the prism of our education.

As this article comes to an end just like how a school play would, I too have one more thing to say, and that is Happy World’s Teachers Day!
