Students assembled in neat rows, their attention fixed on the speakers ahead. On September 3, 2025, Far Eastern Private School Al Shahba celebrated the spirit of Emirati Women’s Day with a lively and informative presentation that paid tribute to the trailblazing women who have helped shape the UAE.
This annual celebration, held every 28th of August, was established in 2015 by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, also known as the Mother of the Nation. Though a belated tribute, it reflected the nation’s commitment to gender balance, empowerment, and the significance Emirati women play throughout the UAE.
This year’s theme of “Hand in Hand, Celebrating the 50th,” was reflected in the student-led presentation, an emphasis on the shared progress Emirati women have contributed over the span of five decades. The program focused on honoring their pivotal role in shaping the UAE’s past, present, and future, mentioning multiple women who’ve made their mark on society.
Mentioned were, Shamma Al Mazuri, the world’s youngest Minister who currently serves as the Minister of Community Empowerment; Sarah Al Amiri who humbly leads the UAE’s space exploration alongside brilliantly executing her duties as Minister of Education; and Dr. Maitha Al Shamsi, a respected academic and government figure who has made great contributions to the education and empowerment of women.
The event served as a reminder of the broad efforts across the country to support gender equality such as the Gender Balance Council and the National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women, aimed at actively encouraging young women to pursue their ambitions. After a short Q&A the presentation concluded by instilling students with a unifying message of empowerment and an appreciation for the role of Emirati women in building the nation’s future.
