Last October 25-26 and November 2-3, FEPS Al Shahba athletes gathered at the school grounds for the Basketball, Volleyball, and Badminton tryouts to be accepted in the official sports team 2021-2021.
Each sport was undeniably active as students showed off their skills with the assistance of different Coaches, to the point even distance learning students came to school for the said tryouts.
Basketball Tryouts
“Basketball is not only a sport for higher levels,” said the Intermediate boys as they show off their incredible abilities to be qualified in the varsity team. Coaches were able to tell who was skillfully blessed.
During the free shooting, the boys’ confidence is all on-point. And to fully witness the skills of the boys, a game practice took place (5:5) with a score of 2-6.
32 Highschool boys remarkably joined the basketball tryouts but only lucky 24 will be accepted in the final lineup of the varsity team. The school main ground is packed as soon as the warm up and free shooting routine started.
To fill in the skills needed for the team, a practice game was held (6:6) with a score of 28 – 41.
Carl Taguinod, a grade 10 aspiring basketball player said, “I am confident because I have been part of the varsity team of FEPS since 2019 but I am still nervous with the thought that I might not get accepted since there are a lot of good players, so I motivated myself that I have to show my best performance.”
Coaches were astonished with each players’ performance and said “A lot of students are excited with the tryout and they are expecting to be part of the selection, so I hope they do their best.”
On the other hand, the Highschool girls are unstoppable as 3 students tried their luck for the basketball varsity team by showing their free throw skills.
Volleyball Tryouts
Tryouts do not end with one sport only for volleyballs awaits their turn! Eight Highschool girls participated last October 26. The girls are all excited and motivated to do their best just to be part of the official varsity team. As they warm up – basic foot working, receiving, and serving were done.
Since they do not have enough players, Coaches focused on the players’ potential by letting them play half-court.
And by November 3, thirteen more joined them during the second tryouts for finalisation of players. Since they are much anticipated, a practice match took place (6:6) to prove themselves worthy of the team. In the end, only 16 students became part of the varsity.
Meanwhile, the Highschool volleyball boys are spiking the ball with all their might as they play for the tryouts. Since less than 10 students just participated, it was announced that selection of the final varsity players will be settled at Intrams.
Badminton Tryouts
Aside from basketball and volleyball, FEPS is also open to students who are interested in badminton.
Girls and boys from the different departments were coached by Coach Nelson regarding the basic rules, foot works, and correct way to properly control their shuttlecocks in court.
