This School Year 2022-2023, one of the most active organizations of Far Eastern Private School (Al Shahba) was born into the spotlight – the “Maharlika Dance Troupe” which is composed of skilled dancers who use body movements and facial expressions to convey their emotions, creativity, and love for the arts.
It all started in September 2022 when auditions were held to welcome passionate members to the MDT. One of the troupe’s primary objectives is to establish itself as a talent and dance powerhouse in FEPS (Al Shahba). They seek to motivate and assist others in gaining self-confidence and sharing their expertise and interests.
But everything they have achieved and will achieve in the future would not be possible without the leadership and guidance of the MDT’s advisor, Ms. Ermalyn P. Lambaco. Despite being newly hired by the school, Ms. Ermalyn demonstrated her commitment to the group’s success. Under her supervision, the Maharlika Dance Troupe has gained recognition in various dance performances. Her passion for preserving Philippine culture through dance is evident in the group’s performances. It was shown early on how dedicated she was to transform the MDT into a formidable and effective team.
The clothes for MDT performances are all sewn by Ms. Ermalyn herself. It’s an excellent example of how much she cares about her students and encourages them.
“She is without a doubt one of the most empowering, determined, and inspiring mentors and instructors I’ve ever met.” Klarizze Dela Pena, the troupe’s Main Leader, asserts confidently.
Aside from its teacher-in-charge, MDT’s leaders include Klarizze Dela Pena, Princess Tumlos, Samantha Samson, Althea Laxamana, Vierra Castillo for the girls, and Khalil Abril and Martin Revilla for the boys. Some of their recent performances include folk dances within school perimeters and outside – during the Barrio Fiesta. They will also participate in the much-anticipated Philippines Independence Day celebration this June 2023.
Their performances that focus more on traditional folklore are indeed a highlight of the team’s journey which provides a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. The audience, whether they be students and teachers, or a crowd at a competition – continues to be dazzled by the team’s colorful costumes, intricate footwork, and lively music.
The involvement of the school in many activities provides students with opportunities and tools to develop their skills. But most of all, our dear FEPSians’ passion and zeal make things possible – allowing them to shine brighter in upcoming performances.
The Maharlika Dance Troupe, through creativity and grind, clearly displays their essential mission of empowering students by showcasing their skills and talented spirits in performing. The MDT hopes to alter people’s perceptions about dance as not only an art form – but a medium of communication.
