“Education is the most powerful tool for changing the world.” Nelson Mandela’s famous saying points out the significance of education in shaping our future. Nevertheless, when it comes to education, one frequently asked question would be whether senior high school is considered necessary before attending college.

On one hand, entering senior high school before college can provide students with numerous benefits. It allows them to get a head start on college or work and helps save money. By taking advanced courses in senior high school, students can get the academic challenge they need and avoid seniority by graduating early.

For example, Sarah, a recent high school graduate who decided to enter senior high school before going to college said: “I was able to take advanced courses in math and science during my senior year which helped me prepare for my college major in engineering. I also saved money by earning college credits while still in high school.”

Some students, on the contrary hand, may decide not to attend senior high school before attending university. Some people, for example, may choose to take a gap year just to travel or work before commencing their university education journey. Others may feel that studying after receiving their college acceptance letter is a waste of time and experience seniority during their senior year.

John, who decided not to enter senior high school before going to college said: “I wanted to take a gap year after graduating from high school so I could travel and gain some life experience before starting college. I felt that studying after receiving my acceptance letter would be a waste of time.”

Notwithstanding these qualms, trying to sign in for senior high school before college can also provide students with valuable life abilities and educational opportunities which might prepare them for college and even beyond. Senior high school can also provide students with opportunities such as areas of expertise with various tracks and strands, hands-on learning in different fields of work, outfitting them with global skills, and so forth, which can help them start exploring their passions and strengths before trying to commit to a college major or career trajectory.

Although some students may genuinely think they are ready to face the challenges of college and desire to proceed with their university education journey as quickly as possible, there are substantial benefits such as getting a head start on college or work, saving money, acquiring academic challenges, trying to skip seniority, making adjustments seamlessly into new environments once they finish from senior high school, having access to hands-on learning in a variety of career fields, being equipped with global skills, and so on. Finally, the decision should indeed be based on the unique requirements and objectives of each student.
